Montecastillo Golf

On both our most recent golf holidays, Montecastillo Golf course has been the course that was an essential amongst the five we were scheduled to play. As our group included both high and medium handicappers, we wanted to include a course that we all felt was fair, yet challenging. Add to this the fact that the green fees are very reasonable compared to Valderrama and you can see why Montecastillo was a "must include"!

From the putting green which overlooks the first tee and driving range, to the clubhouse and excellent shower and changing facilities, Montecastillo exudes quality fromn the moment you arrive. The staff can appear a little serious, but are courteous and helpful and very tolerant of non Spanish speakers. Even as a relatively high handicapper, although impressed by the magnificence of some of the holes which command excellent views over the course and surrounding hills, I never stood on any tee and felt overwhelmed by the hole. Most are straightforward what I would call honest golf holes. Some I felt would need two or three consecutive good shots to give me a scoring chance and on most I felt even one wayward shot was not a complete disaster.

The first year I played here, all my companions felt the course was looking just a shade neglected, but on our second visit, not long after severe floods had hit the area, the course was coming back to what I imagine its glory days must have been like. Lush fairways, magnificent smooth greens and superb views from the elevated tees.

As with Arcos Gardens, if you are considering shortlisting only a few courses for your next golfing holiday and you are in the vicinity of Montecastillo Golf Course, do most definitely include this fine course in your shortlist.
